Fort Robinson Breakout Run
Each year, Gathering Thunder Foundation is a proud Sponsor and supporter of the annual Fort Robinson Break Out Run, at Fort Robinson, Nebraska. We provide and serve a nutritious breakfast for all of the runners, their chaperones and sponsors after they have arrived in Oglala, SD on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and prepare to further their run north to Montana.
This historical event, which takes place each January, commemorates the break out of Chief Dull Knife and his band of Northern Cheyenne People, who escaped imprisonment and near starvation by making their way north through Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, all the way to Lame Deer, Montana on foot, in the dead of winter.
