Scholarship Overview

Pursuing a higher education for the first-time student is exciting but can also be daunting both in dealing with the paperwork and the finances. Looking to achieve an education while being a single parent is also no easy task. Expenses for studying and childcare mean single parents can experience obstacles to pursuing their educational goals every year. Gathering Thunder Foundation wants to help First Nations students with their education expenses towards their degree or certification.

Awarded Amount

The one-time scholarship amount is $1,000.

Eligibility

We want to help a First Nations student who needs funds for their studies. Both Undergraduate and Graduate Students can apply for the scholarship, provided currently enrolled in a full-time degree program in an accredited trade school, technical school, community college, or college or university. 

How will Applications be Reviewed?

The Gathering Thunder Foundation Board of Directors reviews each application submitted, and a winner will be announced and notified on this page after 30 days of the deadline date. One winner will be selected.

How to Apply?

Applying for a scholarship is easy. Read the details below before using.

Here are the steps to apply for the scholarship:

  • Fill out an online 2023 GTF Scholarship Application. Note: Your application can’t be SAVED and must be submitted when you are ready to submit the completed application.

  • An essay will be part of the online application, so please review the information before you submit your application. Note: Your application can’t be SAVED and must be submitted when you are ready to submit your completed application.

  • Write a 1000-word essay and address the following Essay Questions:

    • How are you active in your tribal community? (500 Words)

    • What are your goals upon completion of your schooling? (500 Words)

  • Gathering Thunder Foundation will immediately disqualify an application that finds or suspects plagiarism.

  • Completed applications are due on or before August 16, 2023.

  • The winner may be required to provide additional documentation.

  • After the application deadline has passed, the GTF Board of Directors will review applications and select a winner.

  • The winner will be announced on August 19, 2023, and will be notified by email.
